Dina Bangdel, associate professor at Virginian Commonwealth University will be speaking at a talk programme titled Imaging Women in South Asian Art on July 20. Bangdel, who has a PhD from Ohio State University specialises in studying South Asian/Indian Art and Himalayan Art. Gender studies, and South Asian contemporary art and film are other fields of her work. Daughter of renowned scholar and artist Lain Singh Bangdel, Dina will be speaking on South Asian art, a major topic of her college curriculum.
Knowing that Buddhist art is highly appreciated in the West, and also how Indian and Tibetan forms of art overshadow the Nepali Buddhist art, she has worked over the years to bring into light the beauty of Nepali Buddhist art in a foreign land. Bangdel has dedicated her career in exploring art and its role as a religious tool. She is a well-known speaker when it comes to Buddhist and other forms of Asian art and is a renowned speaker in the US as well as in Nepal.
